At 6:30am CST, Tropical Cyclone Owen (Category 3) was located 95km southeast of Port Roper and 85km northwest of Port McArthur, moving southwest at 9km/h.

It is forecast to move eastwards towards the QLD coast during Thursday and may intensify to a Category 4, crossing the southeast Gulf of Carpentaria coast between Karumba to Pormpuraaw later Friday.

HEAVY RAINFALL is likely about the islands and coastal areas of the western and southern Gulf of Carpentaria, bringing the chance of flash flooding.

DAMAGING WINDS with gusts up to 140km/h are likely on the coast between Port Roper and Port McArthur.
