A frosty start to WA

It's been several years since the mercury has fallen as low as it has this morning in parts of WA, with several places waking up to a frosty start.
Perth woke up to 0.6 degrees whilst Geraldton at 1.9 degrees, both places being their coldest morning in four years. But for Bickley and Dalwallinu, it was the coldest it's been in 11 years, at 1.5 degrees and -0.4, respectively.
It wasn't just this morning that was a doona-hugger; yesterday was the coldest day in five years for Perth at 14.2 degrees, Jandakot topping out at 14.1 degrees, Pearce at 13.5 degrees and Katanning only warming to 9.9 degrees. This day capped off a spell of wet weather that started late last week, which brought nearly half of the monthly average.
The culprit for this teeth-chattering Thursday morning is a seriously cold airmass in the wake of a series of cold fronts. This combined with a high pressure ridge to bring light winds and clear skies, the perfect recipe for cold mornings.
Temperatures will warm over the next few days as a trough draws a moist and warm airmass across western parts of WA, causing showers, being particularly persistent in the southwest. However, wintry conditions are on track to return by the start of the next working week.
