A wet end to the working week in coastal NSW

Persistent showers have battered much of the NSW coastline this week, but conditions are set to ease this weekend.

To 9am this morning, Bellambi collected 37mm, Canterbury 31mm and Norah Head 32mm, their wettest July day since 2011. The Illawarra coast has also copped a soaking, with 46mm at Ulladulla and 41mm at Nowra. Comparatively, to 9am yesterday morning, Sydney managed to collect 22mm whilst Terry Hills got 14mm, their heaviest rain for the month of July since 2011.

Over this last working week, Sydney and coastal Illawarra and Hunter regions have had showers each day, peaking in intensity yesterday, making for dreary conditions. For these areas, this five-day spell of showers has been the longest period of rain since the notorious East Coast Low trashed the NSW coast in early June.

However, the weather is set to change in these areas from tomorrow. Aside from the odd, light shower affecting the coastal fringe, there should be plenty of sunny breaks on Saturday. There will be nearly no chance of rain on Sunday, although high cloud will build throughout the day. But with temperatures warming to 18-19 degrees across the Illawarra, Sydney and Hunter coasts, it's a great chance to get outside and away from the office.
