Alice Springs the calm centre of Australia's wild weekend weather

With wild weather having erupted across the margins of the continent over the weekend, the interior of Australia was pleasantly devoid of significant weather.
Headline-making weather has been felt over the north, east and south of the country in recent days, with severe thunderstorms over NSW and QLD and snow over the alps over the weekend.
Further afield, tropical Cyclone Alfred has just been named in the Gulf of Carpentaria, where gusty showers and heavy rainfall have been lashing the Roper Groote coast and adjacent interior for a number of days.
While all of this was happening, residents in Alice Springs enjoyed what must be one of the mildest weekends in quite some time.
Daytime temperatures of 34 and 30 degrees were recorded on Saturday and Sunday respectively, with a cool evening near 15 degrees felt into Saturday and early Sunday. Although windy at times, no disruptive weather interrupted the beautiful weekend.
Looking at the remainder of February, temperatures will start to climb quickly from Tuesday, likely staying above 35 degrees until next month.
Rainfall is also unlikely in coming days, meaning that the 4.0mm that fell earlier in the month will be well short of the long-term average of around 44mm.
