Another cold front brushing southwest WA

Jacobus Cronje, Saturday June 9, 2018 - 15:40 AEST

Following a week of wild frontal weather, and cleanup operations still active across the southwestern parts of the state, another cold front is delivering modest showers to southwestern WA this weekend.

Gusty northwesterly winds of 70-80km/h ahead of the system have already been recorded at Cape Leeuwin, Cape Naturaliste and Busselton.

As the front slowly makes its way over the southern parts of the state during the next two days, widespread rainfall of 5-15mm is forecast, with coasts and the adjacent interior between Walpole and Lancelin expected to pick up 25-50mm over the weekend.

This round of rainfall follows record-breaking daily rainfall totals earlier in the week, when a strong cold front on Thursday and Friday brought widespread falls of 15-30mm to the region.

Although heavy falls over a short period of time can sometimes bring havoc to built-up areas, the second round of decent rainfall is very welcome, given that southwestern parts of the country haven't received their long-term average monthly average rainfall totals since January.
