Another wet week for western parts of TAS

A barrage of fronts and showery winds from the west will bring further large accumulations of rain through the week to come.

Western parts of the Apple Isle are forecast to receive 60-80mm of rain by the end of next week, with isolated falls of above 100mm possible.

The heaviest rain of this coming week is due overnight Monday, leading into Tuesday morning, in association with a strong cold front.

Strahan Aerodrome reported its wettest July day for at least 29 years on the 11th of this month. As of 3pm EST today, the rain guage at the aerodrome had collected 140% of its long term average July rainfall total, which translates to just over 250mm.

The wettest July reported at the Strahan site (which opened in 1981) was in 2002, when the station was drenched with 326mm.

Latest models indicate that there is a good chance of July 2019 being the site's wettest on record.

A very wet weekend for southeast Qld, northeast NSW

11:48 AEST A prolonged rainfall event is set to bring large totals to parts of NSW and Qld from Saturday, with possible heavy falls and flooding. A low-pressure system in the Coral Sea, a deepening coastal trough and persistent easterlies will bring moisture-laden air into southeast Qld and northeast NSW will bring days of rainfall to the region. While there is not a drop of rain on the radar over southeast Qld and Northeast NSW on Friday morning, the mass of cloud associated with a low in the Coral Sea will enhance rainfall over the weekend.
