Australian Open Finals Weather Outlook

We are now at the pointy end of what has been an exciting display of tennis at the Australian Open.

Last night weather conditions forced the roof of Rod Laver Arena to be used, what do we have in-store for the upcoming finals?

Today Melbourne is forecast to reach 32 degrees, peaking around 5pm. With the Women's Singles Final between Simona Halep and Caroline Wozniacki scheduled to get underway at after 7.30pm, temperatures look to still be around 30 degrees at 8pm. High humidity will lead to muggy conditions that feel a little warmer than actual. The roof may also be in action again tonight with the potential for a shower in the evening, potentially even the odd isolated thunderstorm. Any showers or storms should clear later into the night.

The Men's Single Final will see Roger Federer take on Marin Cilic tomorrow evening at 7.30pm. Temperatures are looking even hotter than today, due to a hot airmass combined with northerly winds, with a maximum of 39 degrees predicted. Thankfully humidity will be down from Saturday, leaving the players and fans to deal with plain dry heat. Around the time play begins, the mercury is still likely to read around the mid-30s. Showers are unlikely and conditions should be clear, with NNE winds around 10-14 km/h, with occasional gusts up to 25km/h.

A very wet weekend for southeast Qld, northeast NSW

11:48 AEST A prolonged rainfall event is set to bring large totals to parts of NSW and Qld from Saturday, with possible heavy falls and flooding. A low-pressure system in the Coral Sea, a deepening coastal trough and persistent easterlies will bring moisture-laden air into southeast Qld and northeast NSW will bring days of rainfall to the region. While there is not a drop of rain on the radar over southeast Qld and Northeast NSW on Friday morning, the mass of cloud associated with a low in the Coral Sea will enhance rainfall over the weekend.
