Queensland is getting ready for a three-day rain event.
A low pressure trough moving in from the west will begin to deepen once it reaches the eastern states, bringing with it some solid rain.
On Friday, patchy showers will be predominately confined to the Channel Country and Maranoa and Warrego, but by Saturday these falls will intensify.
With widespread falls in the region of 15mm or more during Saturday throughout these districts, as well as into parts of the Central West and Northwest. For the Channel Country, the average June rainfall is between 10-15mm, so there is an opportunity for some to see a monthâ??s worth in a day. Throughout this rain band, some places may see greater than 50mm.
As the rain-bearing system edges east during Saturday night and Sunday, falls will begin to become heavier. From about Charleville to Townsville and Cunnamulla to the Gold Coast, very healthy totals are likely. Widespread rain looks to be in the magnitude of 15mm or more, with many places about the ranges and coast may receive more substantial falls of 50mm or more.
With heavy rain over the Central West earlier this week, this may make areas more prone to flooding and turn soggy paddocks into mud. Recently, Longreach was doused by 59mm within 24 hours, its wettest June day in 81 years. Northwest of Longreach, Evesham Station had their heaviest June rain in 93 years with about 50mm.
By Monday morning, most of this rain will head out into the Tasman. A large high pressure ridge will build quickly behind, bringing a return to sunny skies and dry conditions throughout much of the state.
