Brisbane will turn up the heat

Southeast Queensland has remained mild of late, but on Thursday the thermostat will be cranked to very high.
Heatwave conditions are lingering over western QLD at the moment, with some locations such as Birdsville and Longreach consistently reaching into the 40's, more than five degrees above average for more than 10 days.
This heat that has been lingering in the west for so long will finally surge into the southeast this Thursday. Ipswich is forecast to hit 39 degrees, which would be its hottest March day since 2007.
From the Gold Coast to the Sunshine Coast the seabreeze will limit the rising of the mercury, but it will help the humidity soar, making it feel a few degrees hotter than the temperature would suggest. In Brisbane's CBD the seabreeze should be coming in the middle of the day, but there is an outside chance that westerlies will hold it out long enough for the temperature to soar into the high 30's. This means the March record of 38.8 is at risk.
The hot and humid day will see office workers stay inside during lunch and those with free time flocking to the beaches.
A strong cool change will finally arrive in the evening. This change will also bring the end of the heatwave for western QLD bringing cooler southerly winds through most of the state. Most will be relieved to know that any future warmth spreading across the state this season won't be nearly as intense as this spell.
