Carpentaria's cool nights

Sam Brown, Thursday July 18, 2019 - 12:48 AEST

The Carpentaria district in the Northern Territory's northeast, which shares its eastern border with the waters of the Gulf of Carpentaria, has endured a chilly morning relative to their standards.

Booroola had its coldest morning so far this month, dropping to seven degrees, five degrees below the July average minimum.

Daly Waters dropped to 6.4 degrees, it's second coldest morning this month and six degrees below its July average minimum. It's also had a run of cooler-than-average days, with the last four being up to four degrees below the July average maximum of 29.

McArthur River dropped to 7.5 this morning making the last two mornings the coldest this month and almost five degrees below the July average minimum.

Daily temperatures have been very close to the monthly average for almost all locations in the district, and look to continue this way for the next week.

Looking ahead, humidity will build from eastern parts of the Top End today and slowly spread west, with light easterly component winds. This brings the chance of early morning fog to the region and lessens fire danger. Mostly sunny and dry days are expected for the next week.
