Changeable Easter Weather for Melbourne

From 30 degree days to sub 10 degree mornings, it’s been a mixed bag of weather for Melbourne this Easter.

The Easter weekend started off notably cool, with temperatures dropping to just over 8.4 degrees, around two degrees below average, on Friday morning, before the day warmed to just shy of the average for the time of year.

Saturday was significantly warmer, with temperatures warming by 20 degrees from the early morning minimum, to peak at just over 30 degrees, courtesy of warmer air moving ahead of a strong cold front. Whilst significantly above average, around 10 degrees warmer, it wasn’t close to being the warmest April day on record, with this title going to the 34.9 degree day recorded back in 1938.

With the passage of a cold front on Easter Sunday conditions took a turn for the more unsettled, with increased cloud around along with a few showers and the odd thunderstorm over the Mornington Peninsula.

Temperatures today will take a significant turn as a much cooler airmass now resides over the region, with the mercury only expected to peak in the high teens, a couple of degrees below average and the coldest day of the Easter period. Any showers should clear by the afternoon however cloud will likely stick around.

Clearer conditions are expected to return from Tuesday, with temperatures also trending warmer for a few days, ahead of a cooler change expected around Friday.
