Cool and wet in Queensland

Cloud over central and southeast Queensland is keeping a cap on temperatures and bringing a decent bout of late-autumn rain in some areas.
The gloomy conditions are being caused by an upper-level trough crossing the state from west to east, combined with moisture-laden winds flowing off the Coral Sea.
Sunshine Coast Airport collected 38mm of rain during the 24 hours to 9am today, most of which fell within one hour early this morning. This was their heaviest rain since Cyclone Debbie passes through at the end of March.
Showers and areas of rain have developed across a large area of central and southeast Queensland today and will continue into Wednesday morning under the upper trough.
Rainfall totals of 10-20mm are likely for many areas south of about Mackay, east of Longreach and north of the Sunshine Coast from this system. Some areas will pick up more than 40mm in the 24 hours to lunchtime on Wednesday, which would be more than half of the monthly average at this time of year for some places.
Tomorrow will also be cool due to the cloud and rain. Gympie is forecast to reach a top of 19 degrees and Rockhampton 20, which would be their coldest day in nine months.
Rain will clear during Wednesday afternoon as the upper trough begins to move offshore, with temperatures also bouncing back from Thursday.
