Cool days in Hobart

Graeme Brittain, Saturday February 22, 2020 - 09:38 AEDT

The running average maximum temperature this month is nearly two degrees below the long term average for February.

Frequent frontal activity has affected the far southeast of Australia so far this month, which has prevented a significant build up heat across the region.

On Monday 3rd, Tasmania's capital city recorded its coldest February day in five years, when the mercury only reached 15.1 degrees.

Given the current forecast for the remainder of February, it is unlikely that Hobart's average maximum temperature will get above average. This is despite a warming trend over the next few days, with temperatures expected to reach the high-20's on Tuesday.

In terms of the maximum temperature, February 2020 is likely to be the city's coldest since at least 2011.
