Cooler start to the working week for southwest WA

Following a nice Sunday to end the weekend, the mercury is set to plunge on Monday as a cold front welcomes the working week.

It's shaping up as a great day to be in southwestern WA with most cities and towns reaching the high-twenties to low-thirties under sunny skies. The warmth is mainly due to a low pressure trough lingering just off the coast, drawing in warm winds off the land. Unfortunately, the warmth has mostly ignored Bunbury as a southeasterly flow is keeping the thermometer from raising too high.

A cold front is on its way, and once it links up with the trough and drags it over land this evening, the warmth goes with it. Perth is likely to only reach 21 degrees tomorrow, a solid nine degree drop from today's likely maximum.

The very unseasonal warmth Albany is experiencing today is all gone tomorrow, with the mercury likely to be 11 degrees lower on the thermometer with cool southwesterly winds.

As Bunbury is staying mild today, the drop tomorrow will not feel as noticeable, only around three-to-four degrees lower.

The cool airmass following this front will keep temperatures below average for most southwestern centres for the first half of the week. With another cold front due on Thursday, it's shaping up to be a cooler than normal end to October for much of southwestern WA.

A very wet weekend for southeast Qld, northeast NSW

11:48 AEST A prolonged rainfall event is set to bring large totals to parts of NSW and Qld from Saturday, with possible heavy falls and flooding. A low-pressure system in the Coral Sea, a deepening coastal trough and persistent easterlies will bring moisture-laden air into southeast Qld and northeast NSW will bring days of rainfall to the region. While there is not a drop of rain on the radar over southeast Qld and Northeast NSW on Friday morning, the mass of cloud associated with a low in the Coral Sea will enhance rainfall over the weekend.
