Damaging winds for South Australia

South Australia is in for a blustery couple of days, especially those in southern-most districts.

A cold front, associated with a deep low pressure system centered over 2000km south of the state, will bring strong winds across the middle of the day today, with a repeat of events tomorrow.

The front will cross the state today and is expected to clear east into NSW and VIC in the late evening into the early hours of Tuesday morning. Even once this front has cleared South Australia however, winds will remain strong, peaking around the middle of the day again tomorrow with potential for stronger gusts than today.

The state's southern exposed coasts and peninsulas will bear the brunt of the winds, with a severe weather warning for damaging winds issued for Kangaroo Island and coastal parts of Lower Eyre Peninsula, Yorke Peninsula, Mount Lofty Ranges, Murraylands, Upper South East and Lower South East. These areas are forecast to receive damaging winds gusts of up to 100km/h.

It is advised that people should:

* Move vehicles under cover or away from trees;

* Secure or put away loose items around your property;

* Stay indoors, away from windows, while conditions are severe.

A very wet weekend for southeast Qld, northeast NSW

11:48 AEST A prolonged rainfall event is set to bring large totals to parts of NSW and Qld from Saturday, with possible heavy falls and flooding. A low-pressure system in the Coral Sea, a deepening coastal trough and persistent easterlies will bring moisture-laden air into southeast Qld and northeast NSW will bring days of rainfall to the region. While there is not a drop of rain on the radar over southeast Qld and Northeast NSW on Friday morning, the mass of cloud associated with a low in the Coral Sea will enhance rainfall over the weekend.
