Darwin not quite that wet (yet)

Following a good start to January 2017 rainfall, when 125mm fell during the first 48 hours of the year, conditions have been relatively dry for the Northern Territory capital.
To date this year the airport has recorded around 240mm, just over 50% of the monthly average of 420mm.
However, as the monsoon trough re-positions itself over the region in coming days, these mediocre totals will likely rise.
With at least 10-20mm of rainfall expected each day for the remainder of the month, and heavier daily falls of 20-40mm possible from today until Thursday, it's very possible that Darwin will reach or exceed the monthly average.
This would be in keeping with the monthly and seasonal outlook for the northern parts of Australia, which is expected to see near-average rainfall for this month, and wetter than normal conditions for the three months until March.
