Powerful thunderstorms produced wild winds, flash flooding and even some hail in eastern Queensland yesterday.
Yesterday, thunderstorms fired up about midday from the Sunshine coast ranges to the NSW border before spreading east and north into the afternoon and evening. The slow-moving thunderstorms brought flash flooding and strong winds to many parts and even some small hail in Toowoomba.
In Brisbane the thunderstorms produced widespread falls of 30-100mm, with the city gaining 56mm and the heaviest at Inala Alert with 101mm. Archerfield was one of the wettest suburbs with 88mm in the guage. The region also saw some powerful wind gusts with these storms, Redcliffe clocked 105km/h and Gatton 85km/h.
Further north storms spread across most of the Wide Bay and Burnett region and even into parts of the Capricornia district. The storms were similarly ferocious and slow moving, with falls as high as 115mm just inland of Bundaberg.
Today, thunderstorms will mostly be in the Wide Bay and Burnett district, with a few storms spreading into neighbouring regions. The trough will be a touch weaker today with thunderstorms likely to be less widespread, but they still could pack a punch with heavy rainfall.
On Friday and over the weekend the focus of thunderstorms is likely to shift further inland as the trough generally shifts a bit further west.
