Dry and windy again for the South Coast and Illawarra

Graeme Brittain, Friday August 17, 2018 - 11:55 AEST

Fire weather conditions are expected to worsen again this weekend, as a frontal system brings some dry and blustery air across the region.

The main front is due to arrive between late-morning and early-afternoon on Saturday, with gusty winds lasting well into Monday.

The strength of the wind will make it more difficult for any bushfires to be controlled.

Although temperatures will not be exceptionally high, the lack of moisture in the air will dry out vegetation, making it easier to set alight.

According to the RFS, the Kingiman Fire near Ulladulla was still not under control at 10:30 EST this morning, but firefighters have been taking advantage of a lull in winds today.

The deteriorating fire weather conditions will not only be confined to the South Coast and Illawarra districts, with most of NSW being affected by this system.
