Earthquake near Sydney

A small earthquake occurred off the coast of Sydney this morning.

The magnitude 3.2 earthquake struck at 10:39am local time, about 30 kilometres off the coast and at a depth of 10km, according to Geoscience Australia.

There were reports of minor shaking felt on the North Beaches, although this was a small event and posed no threat the the safety of Sydneysiders.

The Bureau of Meteorologyâ??s Joint Tsunami Warning Centre confirmed that there was no tsunami threat to Australia following the quake this morning, despite its proximity to the coast.

Past earthquakes near Sydney include a magnitude 2.6 quake approximately 45 kilometres offshore and a magnitude 3.2 quake east of Gosford, both in 2012.
