First rain in weeks for parts of central QLD

Jacobus Cronje, Sunday August 6, 2017 - 12:23 AEST

Showers and thunderstorms are gracing the central and eastern parts of Queensland today, bringing the first rainfall in weeks to some interior locations.

A deepening trough extending from the tropics is bringing much-needed rainfall to places like Emerald and Clermont, which haven't seen a drop of rain since the first half of July.

Most of the rain from the eastward-moving trough should be focused to the east and southeast of these towns, although rain gauges are expected to pick up around 5 mm at Emerald and up to about 10-15 mm at Clermont.

Looking ahead, high pressure systems should again bring above-average daytime temperatures and unseasonably dry conditions to the interior of the state on Monday, making rainfall into the middle of August very unlikely.
