Frosty mornings for Tasmania

Tasmania woke to a cold and frosty morning with road weather alerts issued for some areas due to icy conditions and there are more cold mornings to come.
Mount Wellington's mercury dropped to minus three degrees this morning with even some light snow showers falling overnight. Smithton Airport's overnight temperature dropped just below freezing, which is its coldest since July 23rd. In Launceston the minimum temperature dipped to 0.5 degrees, which is 5 degrees below September average.
These factors, cool temperatures and light winds under a high pressure system, lead icy conditions on some roads. A road weather alert had been issued for North West Coast, Central North, North East,
Central Plateau, Midlands, East Coast, Upper Derwent Valley and South East this morning, warning motorists of the potential for icy roads.
A large area of high pressure will build over the Apple Isle and maintain generally clear skies with light winds for the remainder of this week and into the start of next week. This will result in more chilly mornings with a frost warning already being issued for the Central North, Midlands, East Coast and Upper Derwent Valley for Thursday morning.
