Parts of South Australia received the heaviest June rain in 22 years.
While the nationâ??s east has been stealing the weather spotlight in recent times, southern Australia shouldnâ??t go unnoticed, with heavy rain falling over the past 24 hours, uncharacteristic of June.
To 9am this morning, Cleve picked up 38mm which makes it the heaviest June rainfall since 1994. Ceduna managed to pick up 34mm, making it the heaviest day of rain since April last year.
A deep low pressure trough enhanced by an upper cold pool are the main contributors for this healthy rain. While the showers were persistent and slow moving, there were often some heavy downpours. Woomera collected almost 11mm within the space of 10 minutes just after midnight, while Ceduna received almost 5mm within a similar period of time.
The stateâ??s heaviest 24 hour total was recorded at Mullaquana along the Eastern Eyre Peninsula where 99mm fell in the bucket.
Slow moving showers are continuing over this part of the SA today, although becoming lighter as they persist into Sunday. Clearer skies and drier conditions are likely from Monday.
