Heavy rain and flooding for central and eastern QLD

An active low pressure trough is currently residing over Queensland, as residents of the state's south are probably well aware.
Over the past week, parts of the Wide Bay and Burnett district have collected up to 200mm of rain within severe thunderstorms and heavy showers. Further afield, parts of the Central Highland and Coalfields have already exceeded their monthly average with Emerald collecting over 100mm in the first four days of the month, which equates 124% of the February average and the wettest four days since March 2012.
Similarly, Thangool managed to receive 55mm to 9am today, the heaviest February rain since 2012 which bumped their total for the month well over average.
Looking further ahead, this slow moving trough is likely to continue delivering heavy rain and daily thunderstorms, although gradually contracting the heaviest rain bullseyes further north.
The Capricornia district is next in the firing line, with models suggesting that upwards of 300mm over the next four days. Thatâ??s not to mention the 50-150mm expected to fall over the area from about Townsville to Hervey Bay and as far inland as Emerald.
With all this rain, soil moisture contents will be approaching saturation, so the risk of localised flooding increases.
Multiple flood warnings are currently in place, with severe thunderstorm warnings also likely to be issued each afternoon. To keep up with the latest warnings and details, log onto http://www.weatherzone.com.au/warnings.jsp
