Heavy showers soak coastal QLD

A deep onshore flow has delivered heavy showers to parts of coastal Queensland with more on the way over the next week.
The heavy showers are being driven ashore thanks to a large high pressure system directing a very deep and moist airflow over coastal parts of the Sunshine State.
In the small of hours of Sunday morning those in Gladstone may have been woken up by a heavy shower roaring over head. The shower dumped 11.6mm of rain in just 10 minutes, enough to cause localised flash flooding. Further north Yeppon picked up 5.2mm in 10 minutes.
This is a taste of what is to come in what is set to be a wet week for those in eastern Queensland. The high pressure system responsible will continue to drive a moist airmass over the region. This will combine with a deepening trough to bring further heavy falls.
From Sunday to Tuesday the heaviest falls are likely to be between Mackay and Bundaberg. On Sunday falls over around 30mm can be expected before showers increase in the new week. Tuesday should see the peak of the showers for the region and falls of 100mm cannot be ruled out.
From Tuesday showers will become more widespread with much of the coast likely to receive at least some rain, including those along the southeast coast with 10-20mm likely.
On Wednesday and Thursday the heaviest falls should shift south between around Hervey Bar to the New South Wales border. Some models are indicating that two day totals exceeding 100mm are likely.
High pressure ridges will continue to drive showers over much of coastal Queensland for the remainder of the week.
