Hobart longing for rain

Ben Domensino, Tuesday August 22, 2017 - 16:27 AEST

Hobart could be having its first wetter than average month since January tomorrow.

After exceeding its long-term average monthly rainfall in January, Hobart has been on an unbroken run of drier than usual months ever since.

As of 9am today, Hobart had collected 50.8mm of rain so far this month, bringing it within spitting distance of August's 53.5mm long-term average.

Tomorrow could make this the Tasmanian capital's second wetter than average month of 2017.

A weak front will cause showers across Tasmania during Wednesday and should bring at least a few millimetres to Hobart. Anything over 2.7mm would do the job.

Hobart locals can keep an eye on showers as they approach the city on Wednesday here: http://www.weatherzone.com.au/radar/tas/hobart
