Hobart's impressive heat feat

Ben Domensino, Wednesday March 15, 2017 - 16:55 AEDT

Hobart just had the hottest pair of March days in 126 years.

As expected, the mercury managed to climb above 30 degrees during the past two days. Tuesday reached 32.1 degrees and the maximum temperature as of 4pm today was 31.7 degrees in the city. The last time Hobart had two days this hot back-to-back in March was in 1891.

It is also the hottest pair of days since early 2014, meaning the last three summers didn't even have two consecutive days as warm.

It was also warm last night as the mercury only dipped to 19 degrees, which is warmer than any minimum temperature since early January. Tonight is tipped to reach a low of 20 degrees, which is the average daytime maximum temperature at this time of year.

Hobart has now had the same number of 30 degree days in autumn as it did during summer, two.

Showers and a southwesterly change will bring cooler temperatures across the state from tomorrow.
