Hot, windy and increasingly stormy in parts of WA

A trough is directing a hot airmass across the central and southeastern parts of Western Australia, whilst also generating gusty winds and thunderstorms.
Daytime temperatures are expected to be at least 7 degrees above average across much of the Southern Interior, Goldfields and Eucla districts today, including Laverton, Kalgoorlie and Eucla, which are tipped to reach 37 degrees, 34 degrees and 31 degrees, respectively.
Although well above average temperatures are expected in this part of the state today, October heat records are unlikely to be broken.

Gusty winds will also feature both today and on Sunday, which, combined with the heat, will result in elevated Fire Danger Ratings (FDR). A Severe FDR is in place for Eucla and South Interior today, and extends to to the North Interior on Sunday, with Extreme FDRs possible locally in these areas.
Instability associated with the trough should generate a few thundery showers this afternoon in the Southern Interior. An injection of moisture from the tropics will cause storms to become more widespread and intense on Sunday, with a fair amount of lightning activity expected over the central-east and southeast of Western Australia.
