Impressive temperature changes across southern parts of WA

Guy Dixon, Saturday October 15, 2016 - 13:30 AEDT

A band of thunderstorms has been moving over southern parts of WA this morning with the passage of a low pressure trough.

Hot air filtering ahead of this trough moved over Eucla soon after sunrise causing the temperature to rise by 11 degrees within three hours, reaching 30 degrees before 9am. Similar temperature fluctuations were recorded at Forrest which reached 31 degrees at around the same time.

Cloud soon increased, thunderstorms moved overhead and a west/southwesterly wind change resulted in an equally impressive temperature drop of 10 degrees within an hour at Eucla.

Just 150km to the southwest at Red Rocks Point, this wind change moved through before 6am, limiting temperatures to the high teens.
