It's heating up on the west coast

Perth is finally thawing out as temperatures spike for the first time this season along the nation's west coast.
Most of Western Australia had a notably cool start to spring. The Southwest Land Division, where more than 90% of the state's population lives, experienced its coldest September on record in terms of minimum temperatures and the 10th coldest for maximums. Perth had its equal coldest September on record, with an average temperature of just 13 degrees.
The only part of the state that bucked this trend was the Kimberley, where some places had their hottest September on record. Impressively, Wyndham Airport's monthly average maximum temperature of 39.2 degrees was a new September record for all of Australia.
The heat that has been building over the state's north in recent weeks is now traveling south for the first time since mid-autumn.
Carnarvon is forecast to reach 38 degrees today, eight degrees hotter than any other day recorded there since May. Perth will have its first 30 degree day since April tomorrow as northerly winds pump heat through the city.
The hot weather is also making this a week to keep an eye on the latest fire warnings and updates from DFES at https://www.dfes.wa.gov.au
