Late-season warmth in Tasmania

Parts of Tasmania are having their warmest day this late in the season for almost 50 years.

Launceston reached 25.4 degrees in the city shortly before 3pm today, which is six above average for this time of year. It is also their highest temperature recorded this late in autumn since at least 1971, when records commenced.

Other notable standouts around the state as of 3pm today included Strahan's highest temperature this late in the season for 24 years (26.5C) and Mount Wellington's 17 degrees, which is nine above average for April.

Hobart had only reached a top of 23 degrees by 3pm, which is cooler than the last two days despite being six above the norm for this time of year.

Temperatures will remain above average in Tasmania into the weekend before a tough crosses the state on Sunday, bringing cooler weather for the start of next week.
