Latest frost in decades hits SE SA - risk now diminishing

South Australia's southeast recorded its latest sub-zero temperature in more than 20 years but the frost risk for the coming days and weeks is diminishing.
Frost would be the last thing on people's minds this close to summer but it did occur on Sunday morning in southeastern SA, the latest it has formed in the region in 23 years.
Munkora, near Keith, dipped to minus 0.1 of a degree, nine degrees below average. The last time a place in the southeast got this cold this late in the year was in 1993 when Kybybolite, near Naracoorte, chilled to minus 0.5 of a degree on December 5th.
A one-off morning this cold is generally not a major concern. However at this time of year, when crops are budding, it can be a worry.
Thankfully, this late in November and during December frost is quite rare. Fewer than 10 confirmed sub-zero temperatures have been recorded in more than 100 years between the Adelaide Hills and western Victoria this late in the year.
Looking ahead, the risk of frost in the area is only slight on Monday morning and also next Saturday morning in the wake of a weak front. Otherwise, the risk is virtually nil for the rest of the year due to the prospect of fronts being too weak to deliver air cold enough.
If frost does form it would almost certainly be light and brief.
