Melbourne's minimum warmer than maximum

Overnight, Melbourne experienced very warm temperatures under a blanket of cloud ahead of a cold front.
After Sunday's maximum of 21 degrees, temperatures remained very warm into Sunday night. At midnight, the mercury was still sitting at around 18 degrees before gradually cooling to 15 degrees by 9am.
Persistent cloud with this cold front has prevented heating over Victoria for much of today. As a result, the temperatures only continued to drop after the sun came up.
By 3pm, Melbourne had steadily cooled to 12 degrees, six degrees cooler than it was at midnight.
As this front continues to move east, an unstable and cold airmass will linger keeping both daytime temperatures and overnight temperatures close to average for the next few days.
