Mild wake up for the Northern Territory

From southwest WA to the eastern seaboard, overnight temperatures
plummeted well below average on Sunday morning. Those in the
Northern Territory though enjoyed a more comfortable wake up on
Sunday.

The recent intense cold front that brought a wintry blast to the
southeast had little impact on the Northern Territory allowing a
mild airmass to linger over the territory. Overnight temperatures
generally remained well above average throughout.

Extensive cloud cover over southern parts of the territory trapped
more of the day time heat with most places recording minimums four
to seven degrees above average. Territory Grape Farm cooled to
just 14 degrees which is eight above the long term monthly
average. Alice Springs dropped to 10 which is five above average,
continuing what has been a mild month.

Northern parts of the territory were generally two to four degrees
above average. Darwin only dropped to 24 (four above average) and
they've now only had two mornings so far this month that have
fallen short of the monthly average.

The mild nights are about to come to end though. On Sunday a cold
front will deliver a cooler airmass, especially to southern parts.
This combined with some breaks in the cloud will bring more
seasonal overnight temperatures to the north. The cooler nights
will be much more noticeable in the south. Alice Springs is
forecast to drop to five degrees, which is right on average.
Territory Grape Farm will be 10 degrees cooler than that it was on
Sunday morning with a forecast of just four degrees which is two
below average.

Minimum temperatures could even get a degree or two cooler on
Tuesday and Wednesday.
