More good rain falls over inland NSW

Ben McBurney, Sunday April 19, 2015 - 11:49 AEST

Further healthy rainfall totals have fallen over inland New South Wales across the past 24 hours, with more rain likely on Monday and Tuesday.

A thick northwest cloudband making its way across the state has been bringing widespread rain since Friday, with more good totals recorded across the last 24 hours.

Wanaaring picked up 43mm in the 24 hours to 9am today, its best fall in a year and a half, and the heaviest for April in 15 years.

Cabramurra recorded 40mm and Wellington 22mm, the heaviest rain in almost a year.

The severely drought affected Walgett area also got some rain. Collarenebri recorded 15mm to 9am, its best April rain since 2009, while Lightning Ridge and Walgett both recorded 10mm, the heaviest rain since mid-summer.

The rain isn't quite over just yet either, with a pool of cold upper level likely to help generate further substantial falls over the central and southern inland on Monday and Tuesday.

The Central Tablelands, Central West Slopes and Plains, Upper Hunter and southern parts of the North West Slopes and Northern Tablelands are likely to see further widespread falls of 15-30mm across the next 48 hours.

Some parts of the Hunter could see up to 50-100mm as the cold pool is slung around a low forming over the Tasman Sea.

Conditions will dry out rapidly later on Tuesday and into Wednesday over the inland as a high pressure ridge establishes itself.

This will lead to a run of cool to mild days with cold and foggy mornings at times, particularly along the slopes and ranges.

A very wet weekend for southeast Qld, northeast NSW

11:48 AEST A prolonged rainfall event is set to bring large totals to parts of NSW and Qld from Saturday, with possible heavy falls and flooding.  A low-pressure system in the Coral Sea, a deepening coastal trough and persistent easterlies will bring moisture-laden air into southeast Qld and northeast NSW will bring days of rainfall to the region.  While there is not a drop of rain on the radar over southeast Qld and Northeast NSW on Friday morning, the mass of cloud associated with a low in the Coral Sea will enhance rainfall over the weekend.
