More wintry weather in Western Australia

Ben Domensino, Monday August 7, 2017 - 16:39 AEST

Perth will continue its recent run of wet weather tomorrow as a cold front sweeps over Western Australia's South West Land Division.

A band of rain accompanied by blustery winds will affect areas to the south of a line from about Geraldton to Esperance tomorrow. Widespread falls of 5-15mm are likely in this area, although heavier falls of 20-40mm will occur near the state's lower west coast, including Perth.

Northerly winds will increase over western districts WA tomorrow, before tending westerly and easing later in the day behind the change.

Further showers, blustery winds and thunderstorms will then affect the state's south and west on Wednesday as a low pressure system passes to the south of the state. This wintry mix will make the day noticeably cold, with Perth's forecast top of 14 degrees the city's lowest maximum temperature so far this winter.

The impending rain continues a notably wet few weeks in Perth, with the city recording its wettest calendar month in nine years during July. Despite this recent rain, Perth could have its wettest day in two months tomorrow if it picks up 28mm from the front.

Drier and more settled weather will return from Thursday as a high pressure system moves over the state from the west.

Generation gone with the wind
