No rain on the Mardi Gras parade

Guy Dixon, Saturday March 7, 2015 - 09:43 AEDT

This morning's showers no longer threaten to rain on the Mardi Gras parade.

Eastern parts of the Sydney basin collected a few millimetres in the rain gauge in the early hours of this morning. As the sun was rising shrouded by cloud in the east, it didn't reveal a very pleasant morning.

Cronulla South Bowling club managed to pick up 7mm to 9am, while Rose Bay also received 7mm just before the 9am cut-off. San Souci received 6mm, generally much more than the north side which saw the heaviest falls at Terrey Hills with 2.2mm.

These showers lingered into the morning with low cloud making conditions look very gloomy. Parade go-ers need not to worry however because we are already seeing the cloud and showers dissipate.

Conditions are set to clear up well and truly by the time Sydney's Mardi Gras parade kicks off this evening from 7pm. Clear skies and light northeasterly winds should give rise to perfect celebratory conditions under a pleasant 23 degrees.

If you are not too weary from the night before, Sunday morning is shaping up to see mostly sunny skies and a maximum temperature of 29 degrees. Rough surf conditions will be on the downward trend so an autumn beach day might be in order.
