Perth's coldest morning of the year

Tristan Meyers, Friday July 1, 2016 - 12:19 AEST

It was a teeth-chattering start to July for Australia's westernmost capital city.

At 2.9 degrees, it was the coldest morning since last September for the CBD. Pearce fell to two degrees, their coldest since last winter. It even got down to about one degree in Jankandot.

Frequent cold fronts last month brought consistently cold and windy days in Perth during June. This resulted in the coldest June daytime average in 11 years at 18.6 degrees.

However, early morning temperatures were a touch above the average in June due to to these fronts bringing cloud and wind. It took a large high pressure ridge developing over WA to bring light winds and clear skies, ushering in today's frosty morning.

Mornings over the weekend will be milder. However, a return to the cold mornings are due by the start of the working week, looking to drop to as low as five degrees just before sunrise in the city on both Monday and Tuesday.
