Perth's rare late-spring heat

Perth residents will be longing for a visit from the Fremantle Doctor this week as a late-spring hot spell grips the city.
Temperatures are forecast to reach 32 degrees or higher in Perth from Wednesday to Sunday, which is more than five degrees above average for this time of year.
Perth has not recorded five consecutive 32 degree days during November for 43 years and has only done so on four occasions in the last century.
A near-stationary ridge of high pressure located to the south of Western Australia is directing a stream of hot air from the state's interior towards the west coast. This strength of this hot wind will hold out the sea breeze long enough each day to bring an unusually long spell of late-spring heat.
While it is technically not a heatwave, it will be a good idea to drink plenty of water this week and stay out of the sun during the hottest part of the day where possible.
