Prolific Pilbara rain

Port Hedland received a month's worth of rain in one hour this morning and is having its fourth wettest March on record.

The Pilbara town in Western Australia picked up 50mm of rain this morning between 3am and 4am as a storm rumbled overhead. Rain rates at one point reached 17mm in 10 minutes, which is enough to cause flash flooding.

The latest downpour brings their running total for the month to 368mm as of 9am today, more than seven times the monthly average for March.

Port Hedland is having their wettest March since 2007 and the fourth wettest on record, with data available back to 1898.

Nearby Mulyie receive 81mm during the 24 hours to 9am today, bringing their monthly total to 205mm. This is the site's wettest March in 29 years.
