Properties under threat by NT bushfires

Ben Domensino, Thursday August 9, 2018 - 14:19 AEST

Emergency warnings have been issued for separate fires burning out of control in the Northern Territory's western Top End today.

As of 1:30pm CST, emergency warnings were in place for two fires burning within the Darwin and Adelaide River Fire Forecast Area. One fire was located near Adelaide River and the other further north, at Mala Plains, Berry Springs.

Both fires were posing a threat to properties at the time these warnings were in place and were active within a region that was forecast to experience Severe Fire Danger ratings today.

The weather station at Batchelor, which is located roughly between the two fires, has registered wind gusts of 30km/h, temperatures above 32 degrees and relative humidity below 10 per cent today. These warm, dry and windy conditions are helping the fires spread and making them difficult to control.

Visit the Northern Territory Fire and Rescue Service website for the latest details on today's fires.
