Widespread torrential rain from Cairns to Charleville broke June records, with more heavy rain and storms to affect Queensland today.
A moisture laden low pressure trough made its way across QLD on Saturday and into Sunday morning, delivering some of the heaviest 24 hour totals on record for June. Charleville, 80mm, and Prosperine Airport, 62mm, had their wettest June day on record. While Isisford, 88mm, and Bollon, 58mm, had their wettest June day in over 90 years.
Other locations with impressive 24 hour totals included Alva Beach, 48mm, and Townsville, 40.8mm, their wettest June day in nine years and 16 years respectively. Mackay recorded 34mm but with the heaviest downpour, with 10mm in just 10 minutes this morning.
The heavy rain is set to continue today for coastal and inland parts of the state with a widespread 20-to-30mm in two bands from the Longreach to St George areas and about the Townsville to Coolangatta areas. The heaviest falls could exceed 80-100mm for some locations, with the Mackay and Rockhampton areas, and the coastal fringe of the southeast coast and about Tambo to the Jobs Gate areas, the best chance of these falls.
Flooding will affect areas throughout central and southern QLD so avoid heading out if it is not necessary. If you do need to head out check the current warnings here: http://www.weatherzone.com.au/warnings.jsp
