Rainy, warmer days on the cards for NSW

Jacobus Cronje, Tuesday July 19, 2016 - 11:25 AEST

A spell of warmer, wet weather is set to take hold over central and eastern parts of New South Wales this week.

A trough extending from the interior of the country into the state, together with lingering above-average sea surface temperatures along the eastern seaboard, are the likely culprits of weather that could seem almost spring-like.

The rainband associated with the trough will lead to healthy falls on Wednesday east of the ranges, over the Central and North West Slopes and Plains, Central Tablelands and the eastern parts of the Upper Western, and will continue its eastward passage on Thursday before moving off the coast.

Although spells of warmth and times of wet weather are not that uncommon over the state during the winter months, considering how cold it's been in recent weeks, it may certainly feel a bit out of place. Daytime temperatures will soar to over 20 degrees across most of the state today, on Wednesday and Thursday, at least four to five degrees above the long-term average for July.

Rainfall will dissipate across the state by Friday, but daytime temperatures will likely remain well above 20 degrees for the most parts, before cooler temperatures kick in by the weekend as a series of cold fronts attempt to reclaim winter.
