Severe storms to strike Queensland fire grounds on Tuesday

Severe thunderstorms are likely to develop in parts of central Queensland that are being affected by bushfires today.
A feed of warm and moisture-laden air from the Coral Sea will interact with a low pressure trough and a very unstable atmosphere over central Queensland today, triggering intense thunderstorms. Some storms are likely to become severe and supercells - which are the most dangerous type of thunderstorm - are a good chance.
Storms will initially develop over Queensland's Central Highlands districts about the Carnarvon Ranges from late morning, before becoming more widespread during the afternoon and early evening. Storms will generally move from west, although any supercells would likely to choose their own path and could move in any direction.
As the afternoon progresses, storms are likely to develop in the state's north, over the Central Coast, Capricornia, and Wide Bay and Burnett Districts, and in parts of the South East Coast District, most likely around the Sunshine Coast region.
Today's thunderstorms may produce damaging winds, large hail and heavy rain leading to flash flooding, while supercells bring a risk of destructive wind and giant hailstones.
The rain from today's thunderstorms is likely to help put out some of the fires burning in Queensland, however the downpours will be hit and miss. Unfortunately, some fire-affected areas may be impacted by strong winds and lightning, with little if any rain, which would be likely to make the situation worse.
A severe thunderstorm warning was in place for parts of Queensland's central inland as of 9am on Tuesday and more than 15 bushfire Alerts were in place across the state.
