Conditions are set to take a turn for the worse over the weekend as a cold front bears down on southwestern WA.
West/northwesterly breezes will increase throughout Saturday across the South West and South Coastal regions, with the exposed capes seeing particularly strong gusts. Cape Leeuwin and Cape Naturaliste have the potential to experience gusts in excess of 90 km/h, with conditions intensifying into Sunday.
The early hours of Sunday morning should see the peak in winds, with west/southwesterly gusts possibly reaching as high as 100 km/h, mostly occurring across the exposed capes and islands.
Further north and south winds should be less intense, however the state's capital still has the potential to see gusts from 80-90 km/h. Accompanying this will be heavy rain, where up to 20mm is a chance in Perth. Locations as far north as Geraldton may see gusts of up to 80km/h at their peak during the morning.
Isolated thunderstorms are on the cards for Sunday morning which may also deliver damaging winds and hailstones, mostly confined to the South West, Great Southern and South Coastal.
As this front continues to migrate east in the days following, winds will ease as a high pressure ridge builds, although breezes are still likely to be gusty along the South East Coastal and Eucla districts.
