'Stars shining bright in the east' for Sydney carols

Anthony Duke, Saturday December 20, 2014 - 13:25 AEDT

After a fairly cloudy morning, Sydney's skies are clearing nicely for a starry but cool night for Carols at the Domain.

An area of high pressure has brought settled weather to much of southeastern Australia and it provides near perfect conditions for festive outdoor entertainment this weekend and Sydney is a prime example.

Families heading into the city this afternoon for a time of picnics and singing can be sure to leave there brollies at home, but it may be wise to grab a sweater or blanket for after dark. In a steady onshore breeze the city has struggled to reach 23 degrees this afternoon, despite the increasing sunshine.

Moderate easterly winds will persist this afternoon averaging around 25km/h, but will ease from around 8pm in time for the start of the concert. The light easterly breeze should stop a sharp drop in temperature after sunset, falling to about 20 degrees by the time the concert ends.

Mums and Dads should make sure they grab a good night's sleep, as tomorrow looks like the perfect summer Sunday. Blue skies are expected to stretch across the Sydney basin with the mercury rising to the low-30s for western suburbs and the mid-20s along the coast.
