Stormy September Weekend in the Southwest

The southwest of Western Australia is in for a thundery weekend as a trough and low pass over the region.

A low pressure system with an associated trough has already begun to produce thunderstorms over the South West Land Division, with a few storms popping up just east of Albany on Saturday Morning. About 300 strikes were recorded within 200km of Albany with these storms.

On Saturday afternoon, isolated-to-scattered thunderstorms are expected to pop up for most areas in the southwest, including Perth. During the evening and early Sunday morning, the lines of storm activity will move over the Goldfields and the southeast coast of WA

Rainfall from storms will mostly amount to under 3mm, but some storms could bring up to around 10-15mm, most likely over the hills near the south coast.

While most of these thunderstorms are expected to be benign, some could be strong enough to produce damaging winds, so click here to keep up to date with the latest warnings.

BoM declares El Niño over
