Stormy weather coming up for Tassie

Graeme Brittain, Saturday February 10, 2018 - 17:50 AEDT

Tasmania is no stranger to inclement conditions, but after a reasonable quiet period, the island is in for some unsettled weather next week.

A vigorous frontal system is due to impact Tasmania on Wednesday and Thursday of next week, which could generate wind gusts in excess of 100km/h for coastal parts of The Apple Isle, and closer to 60-80km/h for exposed inland areas.

The exact timing of the strongest of the winds is still subject to change, but at this stage, winds look to peak between Wednesday morning and Thursday morning.

Shipping and ferry services in the Bass Strait are likely to be somewhat disrupted by this system. Additionally, cold air brought about by this system could lead to snow falls over highland areas, so bush walkers may want to revise their plans before heading out.
