Sultry Sunday for Adelaide

Graeme Brittain, Sunday March 26, 2017 - 10:07 AEDT

Hot and humid conditions will affect Adelaide through today and into the early hours of Monday.

Very hot air is currently being funnelled across the region, which will allow temperatures to soar into the mid 30's across the city this afternoon. This is well above the March average of 26.4 degrees. Northeasterly winds will strengthen into the evening, ahead of a cold front, which is likely keep temperatures above 30 degrees until at least midnight tonight. The relative humidity will be high prior to the passage of the front, which will make it feel a few degrees warmer than the mercury suggests.

The cool change is expected to arrive before dawn on Monday, resulting in a substantially cooler day on Monday. Then for the remainder of the first week, temperatures will drop below average, with Thursday tipped to be the coolest day of the month so far.

A very wet weekend for southeast Qld, northeast NSW

11:48 AEST A prolonged rainfall event is set to bring large totals to parts of NSW and Qld from Saturday, with possible heavy falls and flooding.  A low-pressure system in the Coral Sea, a deepening coastal trough and persistent easterlies will bring moisture-laden air into southeast Qld and northeast NSW will bring days of rainfall to the region.  While there is not a drop of rain on the radar over southeast Qld and Northeast NSW on Friday morning, the mass of cloud associated with a low in the Coral Sea will enhance rainfall over the weekend.
