Sunday drenching for central-eastern Queensland

As most of lower-latitude Australia is deep in the dry season, a summer-like trough will bring unseasonable rain to central eastern QLD on Sunday.
Fueled by moisture drawn in from the tropics, a trough will make its way slowly east over the sunshine state today and tomorrow, and sunshine will give way to heavy downpours and thunderstorms. The heaviest falls are likely to be over Capricornia, Central Highlands and Coalfields and Wide Bay and Burnett.
Around 20-40mm of rain is likely in many areas between Emerald and Bundaberg with embedded thunderstorms. Most of the action should happen in the afternoon and evening, and within these few hours, many places look to collect more rain than they did during June and July combined.
Westerly winds high in the atmosphere will push the trough offshore late Sunday and into Monday. It will then be a return to typical winter-like conditions, with dominant high pressure over the region looking to bring mostly sunny conditions for at least the next week.
