Sunny skies but biting cold for Sydney

Skies have been sunny across Sydney over the weekend, but a biting wind from a cold airmass over southeastern parts of the country is making it feel significantly colder than the mercury would suggest.

Minimum temperatures of between 6 and 10 degrees were reported over eastern parts of Sydney on Sunday morning, while most inland areas of Greater Sydney reported temperatures between 0 and 4 degrees.

The coldest location by far was Camden, where the mercury dropped to 0.6 degrees soon after 6am.

Although maximum temperatures of between 14 and 17 degrees are expected across Greater Sydney today, westerly to southwesterly winds from the cold airmass are making it feel very much in the single digits for the next 48 hours.

As winds strengthen even further overnight and into Monday, similar conditions can be expected during the start of the week. Additionally, a southerly change early in the day brings a risk of brisk, gusty showers and the odd thunderstorm to the eastern parts of the city until at least Tuesday afternoon, adding to the wintry feel.

A Severe Weather Warning for damaging winds currently also includes the Sydney Coast, while a Strong Wind Warning also includes Sydney Closed Waters.
